Xbox 360 Ring Of Death
One major problem that most Xbox owners face is the Xbox 360 ring of death. Well it isn't exactly fatal to humans, rather it is the ring of light that appears in front of the Xbox 360 that flashes in red color indicating a big problem and that the system is shutting down.
The Xbox 360 has had problem since its launch, at least as portrayed in the media, due to constant overheating, poor manufacturing problems, and instability while on the store shelves. These were some of the problems that people experienced before the much dreaded lights illuminated on their favorite game console.
Every time the Xbox 360 ring of death appears, it need not necessarily be returned to the factory. Some of the issues can be resolved by oneself. The ring when working properly actually flashes a green light. The ring actually has four quadrants to it. When the ring turns red you need to see which quadrant is flashing as each indicates a different problem with individual solutions attached.
The first thing you could possibly do when the Xbox 360 ring of death appears is to unplug all cables and switches, reinsert them after a while, and boot the system again. You can also remove the hard drive, reattach after a while and reboot to see if the problem repeats. Most often than not, this solves the problems and your Xbox is alive and kicking again.
Understanding the different quadrants of the Xbox 360 ring of death should help you deal with the problem better. If all lights except the first section are red, the problem may lie with the general hardware. The hardware failure can easily be resolved by removing and reattaching the cables. If that does not work you may need to take it to the repair centre. If only the second quadrant is red, the problem may be with overheating like too many hours. Unplug the system and allow it to cool, to minimize the effects of the Xbox 360 ring of death.
